American author Jack Kornfield is a Buddhist monk from Burma who studied Buddhism with the Buddha in India, Thailand, Burma. After graduating with a degree of Asian Studies from Dartmouth College he worked for a team of tropical medicine doctors in the Mekong River valley. There he was taught by Ven. Ajahnchah. The Dharma society pioneered the practice of native mindfulness, which he later adapted to the Western way of life. He met Sharon Salzberg in California and moved there to start a meditation centre called Spirit Rock. He dedicated the rest to mindfulness education.
